LINCOLN HEIGHTS MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCHPASTORAL/CHURCH HISTORYAugust 26, 1928, twenty-eight (28) disciples for Christ separated from the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. They chose the name of Second Baptist Church of Lockland. The regular church meetings were held here through 1929. Reverend A. W Wise became the first pastor of the new church but left before the end of 1930. Early in the 1940’s the church called Reverend George Davis to the pastorate and served until 1942.During this time, the church name was changed to Byrd Street Baptist.Reverend R. D. Wess accepted the pastorate of the Byrd Street Baptist Church in April of 1943. The church received its Charter of Incorporation in 1951 along with a new name, “The Lincoln Heights Baptist Church.” Reverend R. D. Wess served the congregation for twenty-two years.Reverend Bennett Walker Smith became the fourth pastor of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church in 1965. In 1972, Reverend Smith resigned his pastorate and answered the call of the St. John Baptist Church in Buffalo, New York.Reverend Jethro F. Hill, Sr. accepted the pastorate in 1973 and stepped down as pastor in February 1977.On March 11, 1979, Reverend Lloyd C. Williams was installed as pastor. The church then became known as Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Williams resigned after four years in 1983.The church was again without a pastor. During these seventeen months without a pastor, Reverend Terry Clark served as interim pastor.In September 1984, the Lord sent us a new shepherd, Reverend Freddie T. Piphus, Jr. The church fulfilled his vision to build a new church by securing 4.7 acres of property in Woodlawn. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in 1987, construction began in May 1988 and the congregation marched into the new edifice in May 1989. Reverend Piphus served as pastor for seventeen years and resigned in 2002 and once again we were without a pastor. In 2003, the church selected Reverend Robert Collins as its interim pastor. Pastor Collins led the congregation for eighteen (18) months.In June of 2004, Dr. Elliott Cuff was appointed pastor of the Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Cuff resigned in 2020.In March 2020 Reverend Alfonza Jones was pointed interim pastor and served for two and a half years.Saturday, August 13, 2022, marked the day Reverend Julian Armand Cook was presented to the congregation and voted in as the next Senior Pastor of Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Cook began serving on October 1, 2022.
